What is NLP?

Nero-linguistic programming (NLP) is "a model of interpersonal communication chiefly concerned with the relationship between successful patterns of behaviour and the subjective experiences (esp. patterns of thought) underlying them" and "a system of alternative therapy based on this which seeks to educate people in self-awareness and effective communication, and to change their patterns of mental and emotional behaviour".

The co-founders, Richard Bandler and linguist John Grinder, claimed it would be instrumental in "finding ways to help people have better, fuller and richer lives". They coined the title to denote a supposed theoretical connection between neurological processes ('neuro'), language ('linguistic') and behavioural patterns that have been learned through experience ('programming') and that can be organised to achieve specific goals in life and business.

NLP is an extraordinarily effective and rapid form of psychological therapy, capable of addressing the full range of problems which psychologists are likely to encounter, such as phobias, depression, habit disorder, psychosomatic illnesses, learning disorders, lack of ambition.

NLP can increase self-determination through overcoming learned limitations and emphasized well-being and healthy functioning, in the care of good NLP practitioner NLP is a 'science of excellence', derived from the study or 'modeling' of how successful or outstanding people in different fields obtain their results.

These skills can be learned by anyone to improve their effectiveness both personally and professionally.

NLP is a whole host of different techniques created to enable people to change. Change the way you think, the way you behave and change your beliefs about yourself. NLP will enable you to learn more about yourself and the world you live in.

So how can NLP help you the Business Owner or Manager ?

Not enough clients? Poor performance from employees? Not generating enough revenue?

NLP can help you in business in two main ways:

1. NLP can help you to communicate more effectively with your staff. NLP has the ability to transform the manager into the leader! The techniques are as interesting as they are effective.

2. NLP can help your staff to communicate more effectively with your clients.

If you would like your clients to become more loyal to your business? Then you need to teach your staff about Rapport. In simple terms Rapport is the ability to create a climate of trust between your staff and your clients, when people are like each other, then they like each other.

Rapport is established using a combination of body language, voice tone and words. If you want to improve employee performance you need to work with S.M.A.R.T. goals.

S.M.A.R.T. goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable and Realistically timed goals that are used to guide you and your staff to an achievable outcome by planning the outcome you want.

Have you ever asked yourself:

  • Why can’t we make more money?
  • Why don’t we have enough clients?
  • Why can’t we move the business forward?
  • Am I in control of my staff, or are my staff in control of me?

These statements are all examples of how negative emotions and limiting decisions influence your life and can be the root cause of what is happening in your life right now.

The more people think or say these statements to themselves or others the subconscious mind will make these statements their version of reality.

NLP will help conquer limiting beliefs and negative emotions by improving the positive state, controlling feelings and emotions. As a Qualified NLP Practitioner and Coach Alan Rimmer, working with NLP techniques can help you and your staff become more motivated, more productive and more confident in all that you and they do.
